Mac screen resolutions: MacBook, iMac and Apple displays in pixels and points

Tested with Screen Specs: Sizes & DPI 1.0.1 · listing checked September 29, 2026 · iPhone, iOS 15 or later

Short answer

Apple's laptops and displays are @2x: a 14-inch MacBook Pro is 3024 × 1964 px and 1512 × 982 pt, a 16-inch is 3456 × 2234 px and 1728 × 1117 pt, the 13-inch MacBook Air (M2/M3) is 2560 × 1664 px and 1280 × 832 pt, and the Studio Display and 27-inch 5K iMac are 5120 × 2880 px at 2560 × 1440 pt. Notched Macs have a 44 pt menu bar; older ones 22–24 pt. All 15 entries from Screen Specs's catalog are below.

Mac and Apple display resolutions

Points are the default "Looks like" scaled resolution; users can pick other scalings in System Settings, so treat them as the common case rather than a guarantee. The safe-area column here is the menu-bar height in points.

Designing for the notch and for external displays

On notched MacBooks the menu bar is 44 pt and the notch sits inside it; full-screen apps get a letterboxed area above the notch unless they opt in. External displays vary enormously; the PPI figures here explain why 218–227 PPI Apple panels look sharp at the same scale where a 92 PPI 24-inch 1080p monitor does not — compute your own with the PPI calculator.

What this cannot do

  • Values are the catalog bundled in Screen Specs; Apple's own tech specs and Human Interface Guidelines are the primary source and win if they ever disagree.
  • Screen Specs is iPhone only (iOS 15 or later); this page is the web view of one part of its catalog.
  • Points shown are default scaling; Macs offer several scaled resolutions.
  • Older Intel and non-Retina models are grouped; not every historic Mac is listed.
