How to see your Apple Health data over time on iPhone

Tested with Health Stats: Data & Charts 1.0.1 · listing checked September 29, 2026 · iPhone, iOS 15 or later

Short answer

The Health app charts one metric at a time. Health Stats reads the same data and puts every metric on one dashboard that switches between Day, Week, Month and Year; swipe or tap the arrows to move back through history and every chart redraws for that period. Steps, walking and running distance and active energy are free with all periods and charts; the other 94 metrics are in Pro. It is read-only and nothing leaves the phone.

One dashboard, four time ranges

Open Health Stats and the dashboard lists your metrics as cards, each with a chart for the current period. The Day / Week / Month / Year switch at the top changes the whole screen at once, and moving back a period (a swipe, or the arrows beside the date) redraws every card for that earlier week, month or year. That is the part Health does not do: seeing steps, distance, energy and heart rate for last March side by side without opening each one.

Each card shows the period's total or average with a percentage-change badge, so a drop in average resting heart rate or a jump in flights climbed is visible from the list.

Going deeper on one metric

Tap a card for the full view: a larger chart, a Compare button that draws the previous period underneath (see comparing this month with last month), a lowest-median-highest distribution, a heat map of gaps and streaks, and written insights such as the highest value and the date it happened, or that weekends run higher than weekdays. The Sources panel shows which watch, phone or app recorded each number.

Every reading, in order

The Timeline tab lists every entry Health holds, day by day and month by month, as far back as your data goes: walking speed, step length, physical effort, heart rate, steps and the rest. It is the quickest way to answer "what exactly was logged on that Tuesday" without scrolling a chart.

What is free and what needs Pro

Steps, walking + running distance and active energy are free, with every chart and every period. Pro unlocks the remaining 94 metrics — heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, weight, BMI, body fat, nutrition down to individual vitamins and minerals, cycling power, swimming, daylight, headphone volume and more — plus the records and insights and custom colours and icons.

What this cannot do

  • It only shows what the Health app already holds. If a metric is not in Health, Health Stats cannot chart it.
  • It is read-only: it never writes, edits or deletes Health data, and it does not log anything itself.
  • There is no export, sync or web dashboard; the data stays on the iPhone, so there is nothing to view on a Mac or in a browser.
  • iPhone only, iOS 15 or later. There is no Apple Watch app or iPad version.
  • It does not interpret values or give health advice; it shows trends and numbers.

Questions people ask

Can the Apple Health app show trends over a year?

Health shows a Year chart per metric, one metric at a time. Health Stats keeps the Year (and Day, Week, Month) view across every metric on a single dashboard and lets you step back to earlier years, which is what makes year-over-year comparison practical.

Does Health Stats need an account or send my health data anywhere?

No. It has no account, no server and no tracking; it reads Health on the device and works offline. Apple's Health permission prompt controls which metrics it can read.
